Eastern Green Link 2 (Peterhead–Drax)

Under construction

EGL2 links Peterhead and Drax through a 505 km HVDC route. Construction is underway following the 2024 approvals. Its converters connect the subsea DC system to the AC transmission networks at each end. It transfers electricity between regions; its rating is not additional generating capacity.

What this link contributes

This asset provides a route for electricity to move between networks or strengthens the network carrying that electricity. Its capacity cannot be added to wind, solar or power-station capacity as though it were another generator.

Peterhead, Aberdeenshire ↔ Drax, North Yorkshire

Converter stations, cable manufacture, offshore installation, landfall works and grid energisation can progress at different times. The status above describes the documented project stage rather than assuming all work packages are complete.

Project location

Official EGL2 map layers show Wren Hall’s converter-site boundary, the published onshore cable corridor and landfall works. The offshore cable line is explicitly generalised by the developer; it is not a surveyed as-built cable trace. The separate Peterhead/Boddam converter is also marked using its mapped construction-site centre.

Markers identify sites, published points or labelled connection areas. Markers are not site boundaries or entrances. EGL2’s additional outlines and route layers are explicitly identified in the developer’s map data.
