About Octary

Octary is a UK energy intelligence and technical-training platform. We bring live grid and market data, project-development tools, and professional engineering courses together in one place — for energy professionals, learners, households and drivers.

What Octary is for

Octary serves three audiences:

• Energy professionals — live grid and wholesale market data, the connection queue, CfD tracking, network charges, feasibility models and an API.
• Learners — self-paced engineering courses (wind, solar, BESS, EV charging, biomass) with certificates and CPD-relevant assessment.
• Households and drivers — tariff guidance, smart-energy savings, EV charging information and fuel prices, with domestic calculators.

Our data & how we keep it current

Wherever we show live or reference figures, we draw on recognised primary sources, including:

• Elexon BMRS — wholesale market and settlement data
• NESO (National Energy System Operator, formerly National Grid ESO) — grid and connection data
• National Grid Carbon Intensity API — carbon intensity and generation mix
• Ofgem and DESNZ — regulatory and policy information
• Octopus Energy API — consumer tariff and DNO-region data

Each data tool shows an "As of" date and its source. Live feeds update automatically; reference figures (for example capacity or policy targets) are reviewed on a schedule and dated on the page. Where official statistics lag, we show the latest available period.

Editorial & corrections policy

We aim for accuracy and clarity. If you spot something wrong or out of date, please tell us at energy@octary.com with the subject line "Correction". We review reports promptly and update the page with a revised date. Material older than three months on time-sensitive topics (planning, grants, regulation) is placed in an editorial review queue.

Commercial & affiliate policy

Octary displays an Octopus Energy partnership on some pages. Where a commercial relationship exists we disclose it on the relevant page.

Tariff comparison — what it covers

Our tariff comparison is powered by the Octopus Energy API. [State clearly whether results are whole-of-market or limited to Octopus/Kraken products, whether prices include VAT, whether standing charges and exit fees are included, and how often rates are updated.] If the comparison currently covers Octopus products only, it is labelled as such and is not presented as a general market comparison.

Courses, certificates & CPD

Our courses are written as structured engineering handbooks with assessment. On completion, learners receive an Octary certificate confirming they have completed the named course and assessment.
