The UK's largest and most innovative energy supplier
Octopus Energy was founded in 2015 and has grown to become the UK's largest domestic energy supplier, serving over 6 million customers. It is part of Octopus Energy Group, operating in Germany, the US, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Octopus is known for its technology-led approach, innovative time-of-use tariffs, and consistently top-rated customer service. Live rates for every Octopus tariff below are pulled automatically from the Octopus API and shown in our comparison tool.
The standard variable tariff. Electricity and gas rates move with the Ofgem price cap roughly every three months. No exit fee, no fixed end date โ a good default while deciding on a specialist tariff.
Locks unit rates and standing charges for 12 months. ยฃ50 exit fee per fuel (ยฃ100 dual fuel) if you leave early. Good for households that want price certainty and don't expect to need an EV, solar or heat pump tariff during the term.
A limited trial with a lower daily standing charge and a higher unit rate. Only worth it for low-consumption homes (broadly under ~1,800 kWh electricity or ~7,500 kWh gas a year) โ Octopus itself warns it won't save most households money. Capped availability (around 33,000 homes) and a ยฃ50 per-fuel exit fee.
Unit rates are recalculated once a day from wholesale prices, rather than every three months like Flexible. Can undercut the price cap in a falling market but moves up as well as down โ best for engaged customers happy to watch daily prices.
Half-hourly electricity pricing tied to the day-ahead wholesale market, capped at 100p/kWh inc. VAT. Rates can even go negative during high wind/solar generation. Needs a smart meter and suits households that can shift usage to cheap windows.
A cheap overnight window (00:30โ05:30) for EV charging, fixed for 12 months on the standing charge and unit rate. Requires a smart meter.
Like Octopus Go but the app automatically schedules your EV to charge at the cheapest, greenest moments in an extended overnight window (23:30โ05:30), rather than a flat rate throughout. An EV Saver variant offers an even lower rate for eligible cars.
Designed for heat pump owners โ eight hours of cheaper electricity spread across the day rather than only overnight. Available as a variable rate or a 12-month fixed version.
A smart tariff for storage heaters. Charging is scheduled overnight at the cheapest, greenest times, with a boost window in the afternoon to keep the home warm into the evening.
Combined import and export rates for homes with solar panels and a battery, with cheaper import and higher export rates around peak evening demand. The Intelligent version automates battery charge/discharge for you.
Pays a flat rate for all electricity exported back to the grid โ a straightforward alternative to the Smart Export Guarantee for solar households.
Export payments follow the half-hourly day-ahead wholesale rate rather than a flat price โ can pay significantly more at peak export times.
A two-rate export tariff with a higher payment during the 4pmโ7pm 'prime' window, fixed for 12 months.
Octopus's SEG-compliant export tariff for solar households, including an export-only account version for properties with no Octopus import supply.
A zero unit-rate, zero standing-charge product used for specific export and battery arrangements rather than a standard household import tariff.
For registered Octopus Zero homes only โ a fixed-term (5 or 10 year) tariff with a fair-use allowance based on the property rather than standard per-kWh billing.
Non-smart and smart prepayment tariffs for customers who top up rather than pay by Direct Debit. Rates sit close to Flexible Octopus but the standing charge differs by payment method.
